Things have been slow on the sewing front because I had surgery on my knee. The first few days were awkward, painful, and boring (because I couldn't concentrate on hand sewing or knitting) so there was a lot of this:
But here we are, just ten days later, and I'm almost walking without a limp. I still can't crouch, kneel, turn, twist or stand still for too long. But I am walking short distances so I am happy.
One week after surgery was my birthday. This was the first birthday in about 18 years that we haven't gone on a mini vacation. Chicago was the original plan but after I received my surgery date, I knew we couldn't go anywhere. Instead, my amazing husband made me a cute breakfast in bed complete with weeds from our garden, soggy hashbrowns and bacon that turned to dust with one bite.
It couldn't have been more perfect.
After doing some birthday shopping online, icing my knee, and chatting with friends and family, we headed over to our closest Apple store to pick up my gift. While we were there we mulled over the Steve Jobs Memorial. (anyone else see a quilt in this?)
And his impact on the world. I was surprised how many post-its were written by people from other countries. But, we were near Stanford so that might be why.
After Apple we headed to my favourite lunch spot and had the heirloom caprese salad with the most perfectly ripe and delicious heirlooms. YUM. I'm still thinking about those tomatoes.
Then it was home to ice and elevate and dream about sewing projects! What a great day.
But, this is a sewing blog and I have three months worth of string blocks to show you for the Modern String Quilt bee. Since I can't crouch down, I wasn't able to get pics of these blocks in formation.
First up is Jessica, who had September and chose orange, gray and cream with a turquoise center strip. Although I finished these blocks on time, I didn't get them mailed before surgery. I feel really bad especially because everyone in the is group is SO punctual.
Next is Jennifer, who chose aquas and greens with splashes of yellow, pink, gray, and orange. I think I was a little heavy on the orange splashes.
Finally, I sewed Melissa's blocks today. This is the first sewing I've done since the pillow! Yay! Melissa chose pink, aqua, green, neutrals - her inspiration is the Farmdale chicken fabric.
Seeing all the months together makes me realize that I use rather uniform strips and I don't mix things up much! I'll have to work on that for the final two months.
